Due to recent storms in the southern US, the IRS has postponed certain tax filing and tax paying deadlines for most of Florida as well 53 counties in Alabama, 8 in Louisiana and 10 in Mississippi that are designated as "disaster areas". Affected taxpayers include individuals and businesses located in a "disaster area", those whose tax records are located in a "disaster area", and relief workers. For specific information you can consult IR-2004-108 for Bonnie/Charley, IR-2004-115 for Bonnie, Charley and Frances and IR-2004-118 for Ivan. Affected taxpayers may also be able to claim a tax deduction for "casualty losses".
